Samsung Heavy Industries Nigeria Limited (SHIN) has  successful achieved the first oil on the 200,000 barrels per day-capacity Egina Floating Production Storage Offloading (FPSO) unit.

Egina is the world’s largest floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) unit.

According to Pulse news, the test was successfully completed four months after the vessel departed from the dockyard in Nigeria’s capital of Lagos in August to the Egina oilfield about 150 kilometers away from the coast of Nigeria.

The FPSO will be used to drill up to 200,000 barrels of oil a day, about 10 percent of Nigeria’s total crude production, according to the company, it said.

SHIN clinched the USD 3.4 billion deal to build the FPSO unit that measures 330 meters in length, 61 meters in width and 34 meters in height in 2013 at a turnkey basis in which the builder is responsible for engineering, procurement, construction, transport, and commissioning.

Since Egina FPSO arrived at its offshore location on August 29 from the fabrication and integration yard in Lagos, SHIN has worked towards  successfully achieving this challenging goal of achieving First Oil in 2018, as agreed by all parties.
